Brian and Emer Cleary

Emer Cleary

With an Honours Degree in Journalism and Editorial Design Emer Cleary (nee Mulvaney) worked for 10 years in the newspaper and magazine industry between the UK and Ireland. Starting out as a junior reporter on a monthly magazine and then a weekly newspaper in Tamworth, Staffordshire, Emer left Central Independent Newspapers as the Chief District Reporter on two of the company's titles.

In 2006 she moved home to Ireland to work as the Senior Reporter for The Echo newspaper, in Tallaght, where, within 1.5years, at the age of 27, she became the youngest ever, female Editor, on a title belonging to Scotland's Johnston Press Group, which owned circa 300 newspapers between the UK and Ireland at the time.

Leaving The Echo in 2011 Emer became the Editor of InTallaght Magazine where she interviewed many famous faces including The Coronas, Ashley Banjo, Prodijig, Ardal O'Hanlon, Laura Whitmore, Neil Delamere, Ryan Tubridy and many more. At this time she had finished her first novel, "How Many Frogs?" and by October 2012 Emer decided to leave InTallaght to pursue her dream - to continue writing books and to set up an independent publishing company with a difference.

Having experienced the hurdles of getting work read and published through the traditional publishing houses, and recognising the sizeable shifts and trends in the market towards e-books, Emer decided to set up Emu Ink - a company which offers editing, design and marketing skills at an affordable price but without compromise on quality. It also incorporates Ireland's first purpose- built online library focusing on new Irish talent. The library boasts an unlimited rental facility not seen before in any publishing business and - not to expect anything from others that she wouldn't of herself - Emer has also chosen Emu Ink as the publishing house for "How Many Frogs?" and is currently working on her second novel.
